Suffering from back pain is a common complaint which can cause symptoms not only in the back itself, but also in more remote areas, such as the buttocks, groin, hips and legs (commonly referred to as Sciatica). Research has shown that problems related to the back may affect over 60% of the UK’s population at some stage of their lives. Pain can arise for many reasons from simple muscle strains to prolapsed, or “slipped”, discs.
We are highly skilled in diagnosing problems that can effect your back, including identifying those problems that may require further investigation if necessary. In November 2016, NICE (the National Institute of Clinical Excellence) guidelines for Low Back Pain recommend manipulative therapies, including osteopathy, are beneficial for the treatment of low back pain.
We try to take a more gentle approach to treatment than you may associate with an Osteopath. We use a wide range of techniques depending on your age, fitness and diagnosis to treat your problem, and each treatment is different for every patient. Our treatments often include techniques such as soft tissue massage, stretching, joint articulation and occasionally acupuncture, but we limit our use of manipulation of the joints, or “clicking” to an absolute minimum. This allows you to help you take charge of your own health again and banish back pain.
